11th Century


Raigad, then known as Rairi and also as Raigiri, under control of Yadavas.
Rairi under physical control of Maratha Chieftains.

12th Century


Raigad under control of Yadavas.

13th Century


Maratha Chieftains of Raigad accede dominion of Vijaynagar.



Establishment of Bahamani Rule.



Raigad under control of Nizamshahi, under Deshmukhs of Shirke.



Overall control of Adilshah, but physical control with Chandrarao More and families.

April 1656


Shivaji Maharaj captures Rairi.



Shivaji Maharaj begins his stay at Raigad from 1670 onwards.

Raigad goes under the control of British for a short period before reverting to Peshwas.

25th April 1818


British army surrounds Raigad Fort.

25th April to 4th May 1818


British artillery continues to dominate Khoob Ladha Buruj.

6th May 1818


Ammunition depot on Fort Raigad is destroyed by British artillery guns firing from the hills of Potala.

10th May 1818


The sun sets on the Maratha Empire on Raigad.
Control of Fort Raigad is vested in the hands of the British.
